It is recommended to avoid choosing coarse, fuzzy yarns, such as mohair. Sweaters made from these yarns often accentuate the wearer's flaws, contrary to the intended purpose of the garment. In contrast, high-quality fine and medium-weight yarns are more suitable choices.

For sweaters knitted by middle-aged and elderly women, the outer silhouette should ideally feature a stable and dignified design, such as an "H" shape or trapezoidal shape. The length should cover the abdomen to effectively conceal a protruding belly and a thick waist. For those who are short and plump, short sweaters and tight-fitting sweaters are not suitable, as they may emphasize any figure flaws.

Furthermore, the neckline is also a factor to consider. Since middle-aged and elderly women often face the issue of short or thick necks, when choosing pullover sweaters, it is recommended to choose designs such as sweetheart necklines, U-necks, heart-shaped collars, or teardrop necklines. These designs visually increase the neck's length, making the neck appear more slender. For open-front sweaters, low-cut V-necks, shawl necks, or suit collars are recommended.

Sleeve design is equally important. For a clean and sophisticated look, set-in sleeves or raglan sleeves with armholes are a better choice. In contrast, flat sleeves without armholes, due to their wider sleeve width, may make the wearer appear bulky. Furthermore, to add crispness to the sweater and make the wearer look more energetic, it is recommended to wear shoulder pads 1-1.5cm high inside the sweater.

Regarding patterns and colors, middle-aged and older women should prioritize vertical stripes for their sweaters. These patterns create a lengthening effect, making the wearer appear taller and slimmer. At the same time, avoid overly flashy colors, and avoid large areas of knitted fabric with strong three-dimensionality or shimmering sequin embellishments, as these can create a widening effect and make the wearer appear heavier.
